BALLET:

Ballet is the foundation of all dance, we encourage every dancer at KCDC to take a ballet class. Ballet provides a technical foundation and understanding of dance positions and proper alignment while developing overall coordination and a sense of poise and grace. Classes consist of barre work, center technique, and combinations that combine what was taught during barre and center.

POINTE & PRE-POINTE:

Pre-Pointe is a program designed for dancers ages 9-12 who exemplify exceptional ballet technique and would like to progress to Pointe in the near future. Students will only be allowed to advance to Pointe, when proper ballet technique is mastered and at the discretion of the Instructor. Students must have permission from a physician to ensure that pointe will not hinder their physical abilities. Pointe classes will consist of barre work and center technique, emphasizing alignment and to execute movements properly on Pointe.

JAZZ:

Jazz is an upbeat class that introduces the student to more movements, isolations, rhythmic phrasing and provides an opportunity for students to develop an understanding of the body's innate way to move. Jazz class consists of a warm-up, center technique, across the floor and center combinations.

MODERN:

Students will learn how to use their bodies as in instrument of expression using lines shapes and motions through space. Classes emphasize correct body placement, the use of breath and muscular balancing.

 TAP:

Tap is the most rhythmic form of dance. Class consists of center work and tap combinations focusing on vocabulary and sequencing.

CONTEMPORARY:

Students will explore the total movement potential of the body. It differs from commercial or competitive dance in that it is not bound by set standards, and draws from classical ballet and modern dance.

LYRICAL:

Lyrical dance is a style that allows a dancer to find their emotion and expression through the lyrics of a song. Dancers learn how to tell a story through movement and musicality. This class is a great stepping stone to the world of contemporary dance as students will work on the dynamics of their movement while continuing to master poise and grace.

HIP HOP:

Students will refer to street dance styles primarily performed to hip-hop music or that have evolved as part of hip-hop culture. It includes a wide range of styles! We offer Hip Hop for age 10+, and a Boys Only class!

MUSICAL THEATRE/BROADWAY JAZZ:

Students will work on character building in this jazz-based class. Musical Theatre is a form of theatre combining music, songs, spoken dialogue and dance. This class is designed for the PERFORMER!
